                  A Lesson for My 5th Graders

 

I've really been digging my ChatGPT conversations with my 5th graders! Is it magic? Does it have feelings?

 

In class, I’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT and the students are learning how it responds. I warned my students that AI often agrees with you and it’s designed to keep the conversation going, not to challenge you. That can be dangerous.

DISCLAIMER: AI does NOT make you have suicidal thoughts! 

 

If a person expresses harmful or suicidal thoughts, AI might reinforce those feelings instead of intervening. It doesn’t truly understand empathy or care; it just mirrors what you give it.That’s why digital literacy matters. Teaching kids how to question, reflect, and stay human in their interactions with AI isn’t optional...it’s essential.
